October 12, 2022
Dear Anera Jade Tunay,
Greetings!
We refer to your letter dated October 10, 2022 about your request under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch, for Violence Against Women in Region 4-A.
Your Request
Violence Against Women in Region 4-A
Response to Request
We are sending you the latest data on the reported VAWC cases in Region IV-A which is from 2018 until 2021 only, as provided by the Philippine National Police. Kindly see the attachment in this reply for the file we have received from the mentioned agency.
In the Philippines, Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 penalizes domestic violence against women and their children. The law covers physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuses committed by intimate partners.
As of now, PNP is the only source of data on national incidence of violence against women having a well established reporting system through their Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS). This electronic system is fully operational in all police stations and community precincts in the country.
Please ensure proper citation, and you may also email the PNP Women and Children Protection Center at
[email protected] and
[email protected] for further assistance on data and analysis concerns.
As an additional data source, please also check the webpage of the Philippine Statistics Authority where the Annual Statistical Fact Sheets on Women and Men in the Philippines, which among others, contain VAW data, has been proactively disclosed: https://psa.gov.ph/gender-stat/wmf.
