January 26, 2022 Dear Freedom of Information Program-Philippines and Department of Education, Good day! We are students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila currently undertaking the subject, Special Project in Communication I. Our thesis study for this subject titled “A study on the knowledge, attitude, and practice of Grade 10 students towards Philippine Lower Mythology in preserving and maintaining oral traditions” requires an accurate number of the population of Grade 10 students currently enrolled in the city of Manila, both public and private high schools, to know the sample size we need. We have chosen Grade 10 students as the participants of this study since through their curriculum, they have a deeper appreciation of world literature, including our country’s own literature and identity. We humbly request your assistance in this matter, we would like to know the current population of Grade 10 students enrolled and studying in the City of Manila, this information is needed for our thesis study to have any meaningful progress. To further expound on the intent of this research, the main purpose why we have chosen this study is for us to determine the persistence of Philippine lower mythology and legends which reflects our cultural identity and its preservation to the present-day generation. Through this, we would like to determine and analyze if today’s youth does have the knowledge, attitude, and practice of preserving and maintaining the country’s oral traditions through the five legends of the creatures of Philippine lower myths. The intended output for this project is for us to produce a podcast series and introduce the Philippine oral tradition in a modern approach. The podcast will show how oral traditions can live on in the modern era, and also show how mythology is a reflection of our national identity, through a discussion, focused on the selected five (5) lower mythology legends.
