Good Day!
Researchers from Saint Francis of Assisi College Alabang campus conducted their research entitled “Prevalence of Bullying at National Capital Region from year 2012 to 2017”, it primarily focused on the high school students of the said region and it is because the researchers themselves knew and are aware that bullying incidents mostly occur in high school students where students are on the developing stage as adolescents, compared to the elementary students who are still yet to discover more about their surroundings and environment, and college students who prioritizes more the career path they’ve chosen to take. Years 2012 to 2018 are the most recent years we could use as the scope of this study, it is when there have been several changes around us, particularly technological developments which lead to the changes of our environment, and students’ behavior as well. The risk of bullying is more relevant to our generation now compared to decades ago where people are still not that exposed to technology. The study is only up to 2018 because statistical studies for 2019-2020 are still not released, maybe because it takes a year/s to conduct a study and to come up with statistical data.
That leads to the occurrence of this research study. Through the statistical data by the Department of Education (DepEd), consisting the number of bullying incidents at NCR from year 2012 to 2018, the prevalence rate (percentage) for each type of bullying that occurs (verbal, physical, social, and cyber bullying), as well as the factors that caused an increase or decrease through the years, researchers would be able to gather all the data, make some charts and tables to make it organized and to make an own conclusion on what changes occurred through the years. The researchers could be able to raise more awareness on how dangerous bullying is if it won’t still be stopped. For some, it could possibly be seen just a small thing, just a simple teasing and making fun of others, but the truth is those teasing and making fun could actually caused trauma, anxiety, and fears of expressing oneself, which they could be in them whatever they do and wherever they go. And so, bullying is something that we should not be taking it lightly. We must be knowledgeable about it, we must be aware, for us to take a stand against it.
