Abstract
The changed in curriculum to K-12 program was implemented to gear up students for the future and to produce globally competitive students that also focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) track. With the aim to provide students an educational system that would enhance their skills, the school infrastructure and facilities and the conditions of these learning spaces may not support the desired learning of the students. With the changed curriculum, teachers found ways to adapt to it by changing their teaching method that would accommodate how their students perceived learning. In line with this, the existing public science schools do not align to the curriculum it offers that in return may affect how a student learns.
The project aims to provide and design a school facility for the Philippine Science High School that enables a learning environment that aligns with the curriculum, how teachers teach, and how students learn. Through the dedication of the Department of Science and Technology together in creating academic standards that would teach applied science courses into producing fully developed students embodying competence, excellence, discipline, global competitiveness and conscience.
By incorporating Morphogenetic Design that focuses on the goals of creating a flexible learning environment that would help promote students’ academic performance. It is concerned with the idea to sustain a learning environment considering spatial paradigm and improves the performance capacity of the students resulting opportunities for a collaborative place of learning. Allowing space reconfiguration, open layouts, featuring designs to work physical, intellectual, and psychological systems. It provides concepts and techniques that create a design solution that would help users to adapt in a given environment in the support for the learning phase of the students that helps improve their psychological and physical well-being as well.
It incorporates Spatial Freedom concept that provides the idea of linking space together that promotes flexibility in spaces to encourage collaboration between the students and teachers. It aims to provide learning spaces where students are given freedom to reconfigure their learning spaces and adapt outside the four walls of the classroom. Environments where they can relate to, able to learn, play, gather, and explore at the same time. The approach will make help adjustments that may easily adapts to changing spatial needs, since these needs may vary depending on the users. The strategies provided further exploration of the form transformation on the school development, physically and the system since school is a whole learning environment.
