Abstract
The school environment is one of the pillars of children’s life, students spend around 6 hours a day and over 1000 hours a year in school on average. They interact and learn with the physical conditions of their schools. However, in previous studies of educational theory and spaces, the quality of the school environment is rarely mentioned, and often schools are not considering the children’s need (Ghaziani, 2008). The learning environment affects children’s health, work, leisure, and emotions. Research shows that a poor connection between student and the learning environment may lead to poor performance and may carry some psychological or physiological cost, even if the students does perform well (Maxwell, 2000) and, as (Earthman, 1997) has argued, children who feel disoriented, uncomfortable or bored in school are certain to be more challenged in their ability to learn and pursue their potential. All children are equal and have equal rights, and every child has the right to good education. These are the words from the CRC, Unicef Convention on the rights of the Child (Unicef, 2014). Every child should get the opportunity to go to an educational school with a high education level. This result has proven past research findings on the importance of the learning environment on individual learning and performance. It shows that during learning tasks a substandard classroom or learning environment can have a negative effect on student’s learning, mood, attitude or and performance. In the studied schools shows the importance of natural light in the learning environment, it gives benefits to students, especially in learning (1C, 2020). Most of the classroom has good access to daylight and can illuminate half of the room. To have a better learning environment of the school by providing lighting and acoustical comfort, this considers the factors such as use of better materials and proper planning. The most cost-effective way to introduce better learning environment for school design is during the design process. Most of the schools have already been constructed with little or no concern for better lighting and acoustics. Despite decades of scientific research into the effects of noise and lighting on learning environment, they continue to ignore it. These problems can be solved by school designs that isolate the learning environments against noise from adjacent spaces and outdoors. Classroom acoustics can be achieved by considering the sources-external and internal-of noise, learning needs and children’s experiences.
