Dear Hanna Sophia Morales,
Greetings!
Thank you for your request dated Sep 25, 2023 01:54:55 PM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.
Your Request
You asked for Product Design & Manufacturing Process and Space Requirements
Response to Request
Your FOI request is approved. I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested:
Dear Hanna Sophia,
To address your question on the "List of stages/process of product design to manufacturing," I recommend first that you identify the kind of products your thesis is focusing on and a domain in the creative industry to which it belongs to. Identifying this will help you identify the appropriate processes involved from concept development all the way to production. Such examples of varying processes include products from:
1. Fashion
2. Furniture
3. Home Goods
4. Appliances
5. Tech-based products
I recommend you reach out to specific companies as primary research sources to compare processes and then validate your secondary research.
In terms of production processes, these vary depending on the type of products and the materials that will need to be processed. Tools and equipment will also vary depending on the production capacity and scale, which in turn, answers your next question on the "Space requirements for product design and manufacturing activities"
To give you an idea, here are the most popular production processes:
1. one-off production - production that is considered highest in cost as specialist skills are required to make a unique product, mostly custom made
2. batch production - this is cost-effective when a set quantity is required, usually with a MOQ requirement or minimum order quantity
3. mass production - this kind of production can handle larger production runs because the set-up cost is shared over a large number of products, such as mass-manufactured shoes.
You may also refer to ISO (International Organization for Standardization) which large production companies aim to follow. I'm including a link below that can help with your research:
https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/#iso:std:iso:8887:-1:ed-1:v1:en
You are also welcome to visit the Library at the Design Center of the Philippines to research different processes that various design professions follow. You would see that while there are variations, common themes are followed, such as:
1. Concept Development
2. Design Documentation
3. Sourcing & Procurement
4. Production
5. Packing & Labelling
6. Delivery
