Dear John Axel Orencia,
Greetings!
We appreciate your inquiry regarding the official information and data concerning the native status of Dischidia platyphylla in the Philippines. Dischidia platyphylla belongs to the Apocynaceae family, commonly known as the milkweed or dogbane family. It is worth noting that species within the Dischidia genus are epiphytic in nature, meaning they grow on other plants, typically trees.
Regarding the native status of Dischidia platyphylla, this plant species is indeed native and considered as endemic to the Philippines, indicating that it is exclusively found within our country's borders. Specifically, it has been recorded in various regions, including Babuyan Islands, Camiguin de Babuyanes, Luzon (specifically in Rizal, Laguna and Quezon), Polillo, Mindoro, Leyte, Mindanao (including Davao, Surigao and Zamboanga), and the Sulu Archipelago, as recorded in the Co's Digital Flora of the Philippines. Dischidia platyphylla is commonly observed growing on trees at lower elevations, often along coastal areas.
If you require any additional information or have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
FOI Officer
