Dear Rhodge Arvin Mendoza,
Greetings!
We refer to your letter dated December 7, 2022 about your request under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch, for Number of women whose partners sexually assault them from January to March 2022
Your Request
Number of women whose partners sexually assault them from January to March 2022
Response to Request
We have coordinated with the Secretariat of the Inter-Agency Council for Violence Against Women and their Children in regard to your concern. Attached herewith is their response and additional information from the Department of Justice, which you may also use as your reference.
In the Philippines, Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 penalizes domestic violence against women and their children. The law covers physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuses committed by intimate partners.
As of now, PNP is the only source of data on national incidence of violence against women having a well established reporting system through their Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS). This electronic system is fully operational in all police stations and community precincts in the country.
Please ensure proper citation, and you may also email the PNP Women and Children Protection Center at
[email protected] and
[email protected] for further assistance on data and analysis concerns.
As an additional data source, please also check the webpage of the Philippine Statistics Authority where the Annual Statistical Fact Sheets on Women and Men in the Philippines, which among others, contain VAW data, has been proactively disclosed: https://psa.gov.ph/gender-stat/wmf.
You may also reach out to the National Prosecution Services - Department of Justice for more comprehensible explanations on the data presented through (+632) 8523 8481 to 98 or
[email protected].
