Dear FOI Officers Beverly Berame/Grazielle Anne Sarical: I would like to request information regarding the Physical Fitness Levels of Filipino Children and Adolescents. More specifically, I need information on the following: 1) the number or percentage of schools in the Philippines where the majority (≥ 80%) of students are offered the mandated amount of PE. 2) the number or percentage of schools that offer physical activity opportunities (excluding PE) to the majority (> 80%) of their students. 3) The number or percentage of schools with students who have regular access to facilities and equipment that support physical activity (e.g., gymnasium, outdoor playgrounds, sporting fields, multi-purpose space for physical activity, equipment in good condition). 4) The number or percentage of schools with active school policies (e.g., daily PE, daily physical activity, recess, “everyone plays” approach, bike racks at school, traffic calming on school property, outdoor time). 5) The number or percentage of schools where the majority (≥ 80%) of students are taught by a PE specialist. These information will be used inform the first Philippine Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth (https://www.activehealthykids.org/the-philippines/). School is one of the 10 core physical activity indicators that are being assessed in the Report Card. The intended outputs are 1) the Philippine Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, a communication and advocacy tool that uses existing published or unpublished surveillance data to show the extent to which a country is promoting and facilitating physical activity opportunities for children and youth, and 2) an academic paper reporting on the results of the Report Card (e.g., https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jesf.2018.10.001).
