Good day!
With limited face-to-face interactions due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the education sector was forced to find new ways to function. While public schools are already receiving state-funded modules and are more preferred as a cheaper alternative for parents to further their children’s education, private schools are not receiving much financial support from the government. Those that cannot adapt due to lack of funding had no choice but to cease operations due to the lack of enrollments. In September 2020, the Department of Education (DepEd) reported that 865 private schools have closed down due to the pandemic.
But what was it like for the academic institutions who chose not to give up amid the challenges brought by the nationwide lock-down? Do students still enroll-- or do they opt to study in a public school instead? How had the pandemic affected the number of enrollees in private schools? As the numbers plummeted, did the income and salaries of the faculty have to downsize?
With that being said, we would like to request for the following information maintained by the Department of Education in relation to student enrollment and teacher employment in Quezon City private schools.
1. Number of students enrolled in each private high school situated in Quezon City during the academic years 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021
2. Number of teachers employed in each private high school situated in Quezon City during the academic years 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021
3. Number of teachers laid off in each Quezon City private school during the academic year 2020-2021
This data being requested will be used for research and reference purposes to be produced into a preliminary paper, submitted as part of the requirements of our Data Journalism subject, and assigned by our lecturer, Ms. Karol Ilagan. You may contact Ms. Ilagan at 0956-526-4714, should you have any query about our request. The said preliminary paper will only be used for academic purposes and will only be viewed by our lecturer.
Thank you!
