"Museo de Pelikula: A Study on Achieving Filipino Classical and Contemporary Film through Interactive Architecture"
ABSTRACT:
Classical and contemporary films are facing a hard time in the year of 1990s to 2000s. Nowadays, millennials did not know the classics and contemporary movies in the Philippines. Some of them choose to watch foreign movies than Filipino local movies. It is the result of the number of moviegoers are slowly decreasing every year. Many films were needed to restore because most of the great classic movies were slowly forgotten. Filmmakers are also struggling in terms of finances because they are scared to risk to invest in making movies.
With those great classical movies and contemporary Filipino films, the Philippines promotes film tourism to save our film industry. Many movies in our century were nominated and awarded not only here in our local land but also internationally as well. Which all of these can serve to mark our Philippine history.
In addition, Film tourism in the Philippines has become one of the influences for an individual to travel. It is becoming a growing interest as it creates a significant impact in connecting audiences to destinations used as film locations. More people can be encouraged to visit these scenic spots in real life through film tourism, which can expand the tourism industry and our economic development.
With this proposal, Museo De Pelikula “Musekula” is a film museum that will flourish the classical and contemporary film in our country. Since the museum is specialized in filming, this project is proposed in Diliman, Quezon City. The proposed site has many colleges/universities that offer courses like performing and theater arts, multimedia and arts, mass communication, and other similar courses in the field of filming. Quezon City is also home to the Philippines’ major broadcasting networks that the site is near to the main stations of the GMA Kamuning building and ABS-CBN Building. The project will help to overview what the Philippines can showcase in terms of its sense of places and tourist spots. The museum is open for field trips for elementary and secondary students that will exhibit all local classic and contemporary movies, including the historical movies, props that were used in the films, all the shooting scene that was introduced in the movies and, film technologies and equipment from the late 90’s up to present.
