As you requested, I have placed the letter of intent here on the FOI platform:
To Whom It May Concern:
Warm greetings!
I am Kenn Chua, a PhD candidate in Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota in the United States. My current research interests aim to look at the role of built infrastructure on household welfare as measured through household consumption, health, and education. My specific ongoing work examines the role of maritime transport infrastructure such as the Roll-on Roll-off in promoting trade and access to goods in the country.
In line with this, I am writing to your agency to request the full list of seaports in the country with the following information: (i) name and location of ports (province, municipality, barangay); (ii) date of construction (mm/yyyy); (iii) types of services offered in the port (e.g. fishery, passenger, cargo, RoRo, etc.); (iv) list of RoRo routes served by the port between 2000-2018; (v) dates started providing RoRo services in each of these routes (mm/yyyy).
Information on when each of the RoRo routes started operating will be crucial to the study. Additional info such as the type of port (e.g. private vs public; commercial vs. non-commercial) would also be valuable.
The analysis produced from these datasets will go towards academic research on the role of maritime transport on household access to goods, patterns of consumption, and population health.
Should you have further questions, I can share details of this project with you or your team. Thank you, and I appreciate your support of this endeavor.
