To whom it may concern:
Greetings!
I am Alie Peter Neil C. Galeon, a senior BS Development Communication Student from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). This semester, I am enrolled in DEVC 127 (Data Journalism for Development — one of the specialization courses offered by the college.
Among the requirements in the above-mentioned course is to produce a development-oriented story based on the data that we can retrieve from a chosen topic. In this case, I am interested to focus on the education sector, particularly the special needs learners in the Philippines.
In line with this, I would like to ask for the following data:
1. List of enrolled special needs learners from 2016-2021.
2. List of enrolled special needs learners in public and private from 2016-2021.
3. List of enrolled special needs learners in public and private from 2016-2021 per region.
4. Demographic profiles of the learners (sex, age, etc.)
With the given data, I hope to produce a news feature article focusing on the impact of the pandemic to special needs learners who are considered one of the vulnerable sectors in the country. Basically, I will compare the data between enrollment in public and private schools, between and among regions (and provinces, if possible), and between school years before and during the pandemic.
Rest assured that all the names and important information from the list will be used solely for the purpose of the requirement. No names and other identifiable information of the students will be included in the story, unless consent is given to me beforehand.
I am looking forward to hearing an affirmative response from you. This will be a big help to finishing my requirement under the said course.
Thank you very much. Stay safe and well!
Best,
Alie Peter Neil C. Galeon
