Hi!
I would like to request for the DFA Legal Opinion regarding land acquisition in the Philippines by foreign embassies.
In addition, may I request for some of the bilateral agreements which allows embassies to own lands in the Philippines.
Thank you.
Best regards,

Greetings,
We refer to your email dated December 5, 2018 our request of the DFA legal opinon regarding the purchase of land by Embassies. I would like to clarify that, upon inquiry with the DFA office, there is an existing DFA legal opinion pertaining to the acquisition of land. As such, may I kindly request for a copy of the DFA legal opinion.
With regard to the second request, the research is to know if there are any treaties pertaining to the right of embassies to acquire lands. As such, this request is to seek clarification as we cannot locate the said agreements.
Thank you.
Best regards,
JB

Dear Jemannoel,
Thank you for your request dated 04 December 2018 under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch for a Legal Opinion on the Acquisition of Land by Foreign Embassies.
For further clarification, kindly specify the DFA office you are referring to in your reply to us dated 05 December 2018. It may be recalled that your associate visited the DFA’s Office of Strategic Communications and Research on the same day and mentioned a document on acquisition of lands in the Philippines by foreign embassies which your office sourced from the Korean Embassy in Manila. She was advised to specify this document in your reply to give the DFA a clearer idea of your request. She was not specifically informed that an “existing DFA legal opinion pertaining to the acquisition of land” existed.
We will respond on or before 23 January 2019, in accordance with the Executive Order's implementing rules and regulations.
Should you have any questions regarding your request, kindly contact me using the reply function on the eFOI portal at https://www.foi.gov.ph/requests/aglzfmVmb2ktcGhyHQsSB0NvbnRlbnQiEERGQS02ODU4OTczMTk1MjkM, for request with ticket number #DFA-685897319529.
