You asked for information on deepfakes.
Response to Request
Following are the Council's response to your queries:
1. What kind of research or topics is the DOST more focused on in terms of artificial intelligence?
DOST and PCIEERD Grants-in-Aid projects focus on Mission-Driven Programs to address pressing national problems such as but not limited to, government operations and services, advancing agriculture, revolutionize healthcare, cyber defense build-up, creative industries, smarter cities, and priority areas under the Industry, Energy and Emerging Technologies.
2. Is there any deepfake research being conducted? Why or why not?
As of this writing, no deepfake R&D proposed project has been received nor funded yet.
3. Any research or tools in development or currently active regarding deepfakes?
Since the Council has not received any proposal about deepfakes yet, no tools are currently being developed specifically for deepfake research. However, machine learning libraries and framework such as TensorFlow, Pytorch and Keras are widely used for building and training deep learning models and applications, including deepfakes.
4. Any research or information that DOST has regarding deepfakes in the Philippines
As of this writing, no deepfake R&D proposal has been received nor funded by DOST and PCIEERD yet.
