Greetings!
We are fifth year BS Geodetic Engineering students from the University of the Philippines Diliman, currently in the process of checking possible data sources for our thesis proposal with the working title “Investigating Inequity and Urbanity in Metro Manila, Philippines through GIS-based Opportunity Mapping and Nighttime Light Imagery.”
The research shall focus on determining if there is a significant relationship between the socioeconomic opportunities available to citizens and the urbanity of the place they are living in. Such socioeconomic opportunities shall be divided into categories (e.g. social, geographic, institutional, etc.) which shall then be quantified by their own set of indicators (e.g. for the social category, some indicators include the poverty and unemployment rate). All this is to derive a comprehensive opportunity index score assigned to each city in NCR, to be able to determine the level of opportunity (e.g. high, medium, low) experienced by a specific municipality.
By conducting this research, we aim to provide a spatial perspective on opportunities and equity with regards to the urbanity of one’s location. We believe that this can be crucial in understanding the inequalities being experienced by Filipinos, and hence, helpful in devising plans and strategies to bridge these gaps.
As such, we are humbly requesting for the following data from your good department:
1. Overall annual highschool dropout rates PER CITY in Metro Manila in school years 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021
We are deeply passionate about this project and would appreciate all the help you can give us. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us using the details indicated below.
Thank you very much, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
