Hi! I would like to request for the following documents that is vital for my research: 1) Guidelines on designing coastal ecosystems laboratories 2) References about coastal ecosystems research laboratories 3) Data on existing coastal ecosystems laboratories in the Philippines 4) References about coastal ecosystems research on ecological connectivity and combined ecosystem services of mangroves, seagrass and coral reefs in the Philippines 5) Other references and/or related studies/research on coastal ecosystems concerning mangroves, seagrass & coral reefs

January 18, 2019 Dear Adrian Espineda, This refers to your letter requesting information on coastal research laboratories and relevant references on connectivity, ecosystem services, and major coastal ecosystems. Concerning the coastal research laboratory design guidelines, the ERDB had no research laboratory specific to the coastal ecosystem at present, but we have a laboratory intended for forest and soil sciences. Nonetheless, we are uncertain if our laboratory set up will also apply to the coastal ecosystem laboratory or marine laboratory. Perhaps academic institutions with marine laboratories are in the best position to guide you through the design and guidelines (operation and maintenance). In Southern Luzon, you may inquire at the UP Marine Science Institute (Diliman), De La Salle University (Manila), and Batangas State University (Batangas Campus). There are two known marine laboratories in the Visayas, i.e. Silliman University (Dumaguete) and San Carlos University (Cebu), that could also provide you with supplemental details. Meanwhile, Xavier University (Cagayan de Oro) and Mindanao State University (Iligan and Naawan Campus) are at the top list for Mindanao. As regards to items 4 and 5 in your letter, may we refer you to the Biodiversity Management Bureau of DENR as they have funded a number of researches that deal with connectivity and ecosystem services. They also have adequate information on the coastal ecosystems because of their continuing national program on coastal resources management and biodiversity conservation. Thank you. Sincerely yours, JIM T. Padin
