Requested from BIR by R. Robles at 03:07 PM on
Nov. 17, 2021.
Purpose: This is in connection with articles I am writing as a Filipino journalist.
Date of Coverage: 09/01/1989 - 11/17/2021
Tracking no: #BIR-384994967350
I would like to request information regarding the following: 1) Has the Marcos family paid estate tax after the death of the late Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos? 2) If yes, how much? 3) Did the Marcos family avail of any tax amnesty law on their payment of the estate tax? 4. Has former Sen Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. remitted to the BIR his deficiency taxes and interests as directed to him first by the Regional Trial Court, then the Court of Appeals, then the Supreme Court, in connection with this 1995 tax cases? 5. If yes, how much did he finally pay and when? Best, Raissa Robles
Dear Ana Marie Du and BIR Collection Service Decision Maker FOI Officer, I can understand if you ask for one week to review my request, but making ,me wait for nearly another month for the reply is a bit too much. Pls shorten the waiting period. I believe whatever confidentiality there is in the data I am asking is overridden by utmost public interest since the person in question is seeking the presidency. The data I am asking is not even a matter of national security . As Pres. Rodrigo Duterte said in his EO No. 2, the FOI implements “Section 7, Article III of the Constitution (which) guarantees the right of the people to information on matters of public concern.” And certainly, the replies to my requests are a matter of utmost public concern. Besides, the subject has already replied in part to my questions and I am merely verifying his replies. In fact, the subject's lawyer advised people to check with the BIR, which is what I did. In addition, the BIR has been very vocal about collecting estate taxes, and should the subject win, he would have the power over taxes. Hoping to hear from you by next week, Raissa Robles, journalist
I believe that the moment the Marcos camp released these "documents" claiming payments of deficiency taxes to the BIR and showing a letter addressed to the BIR main office, the subject altogether ceased to be a private and confidential matter. To see the documents, pls read the story below and look at the documents presented along with the story - https://www.manilatimes.net/2021/12/06/opinion/columns/disunity-in-marcos-jrs-party-calls-into-question-his-leadership-competence/1824856 By the same token, the matter of payment of taxes on the estate of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr is of equal and highest public concern and importance since former Senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr is the Supreme Court appointed "executioner" for the settlement of these estate taxes. I hope you will treat this matter with utmost speed since time is of the essence. Sincerely, Raissa Robles journalist
Hi, I was promised a response today. But nothing has arrived. So I'm following up. Thanks. Raissa
