Greetings!
I am Mia Andrea Soriano, graduate student from UP Diliman School of Economics. I am currently conducting a study on measuring the inequality in education in the Philippines.
In relation to this, I am humbly asking for the data on average years of schooling for both primary and secondary education per province from 1980-2017. The output of this study is a research paper.
Written below is the abstract of the paper:
In the Philippines, studies reveal substantial differences across regions and province in terms of income. Moreover, there is a widely held view that in terms of development policies, Luzon gets more than its fair share relative to Visayas and especially to Mindanao. In the education sector, stylized facts from national surveys show disparities in measures of education across regions. Given this, studying the extent of inequality in education in the country and how it went over time is of great interest as it can help in policy recommendations on where educational services should be improved.
Constructing a Gini index using the average years of schooling and quality of education (input and output approach – standardized test and education finance) will be done to quantify the inequality. After constructing the index, a decomposition analysis on inequality across regions, between poor and non-poor regions, and between sex will be done. Relationship analysis between education Gini coefficient and income inequality, per capita GDP, regional GDP, and poverty-related variables will also be done.
Rest assured that the data set will be used solely for the research requirement. I am hoping for your kind consideration. Thank you very much.
Best,
Mia Andrea Soriano
