Good day!
Thank you for reaching out to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
In response to your request:
Rules and Guidelines in Designing a Catholic Church
The NHCP does not have specific rules and guidelines for designing a Catholic Church, as these are determined by the property owners and the respective diocese overseeing the church. You may consult with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) or local church authorities for relevant directives on church design. You may also refer to the Concordat or the Agreement Between the Holy See and the Republic of the Philippines on the Cultural Heritage of the Catholic Church, which outlines principles related to the conservation and management of ecclesiastical heritage.
Rules and Guidelines in the Restoration of a Catholic Church
The NHCP does not have specific guidelines on the restoration of Catholic churches. However, for reference, you may consult the Concordat or the Agreement Between the Holy See and the Republic of the Philippines on the Cultural Heritage of the Catholic Church. For restoration projects, we refer to internationally recognized guidelines published by ICOMOS, including:
The Burra Charter
The Nara Document on Authenticity
The Venice Charter
The NHCP is also in the process of drafting its own guidelines on the conservation of historic and heritage structures.
In the meantime, we encourage you to review the following NHCP materials, which may assist in your study:
The Process of Architectural Restoration https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NFdQiCMnwoYfd57etHXSas6SoEUzHkNY/view Techniques Involved in the Restoration of Historic Structures https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EANgNRdD8OwshkaOg5EYaUKtFLs5mr_R/view Guidelines, Policies, and Standards for the Conservation and Development of Historic Centers/Heritage Zones https://drive.google.com/file/d/192sfqzENl5rf56ISUAyI0KCrMjimelEo/view
We hope these resources prove helpful in your study. Should you require further research, you are welcome to visit the Serafin D. Quiason Resource Center, open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
