Dear eFOI user,
Thank you for your request dated Feb. 4, 2025, made under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.
You have requested for information about bamboo weaving efforts in the Philippines, particularly in Iloilo. I am pleased to inform you that your FOI request has been approved.
To address your three questions, DOST-FPRDI has not yet undertaken weaving sustainability activities in Region VI, particularly in Iloilo Province. However, initial discussions with the province has already begun this year (2025), focusing on the e-sawali development. A proposal has already been submitted to funding agencies and is under consideration for project development/ proposal submission. Coordination with DOST Region 6 for the e-sawali project was initiated on February 6, and further developments are awaited.
Although weaving sustainability efforts have not yet been implemented in Region VI, DOST-FPRDI has conducted previous weaving studies in Cavite, particularly with the Maragondon industry. Additionally, research has been conducted on reinforcing and recommending specific weaving techniques for house construction, including the development of corrugated sawali.
Thank you very much, and we hope for the success of your research. If you can spare some time, kindly answer our feedback form so we'll know how else we could improve: https://forms.gle/iQ6scAKFvqE1qJya8
