Below are the competencies in the TESDA BHS NC II:
Core Competencies for BHWs
- Assist the household in identifying health problems to promote health and well-being.
- Share knowledge and skills among members to provide;
- Share knowledge and skills among members to provide information, education, and communication (IEC) and/or household teaching in disease prevention and control;
- Ensure the proper maintenance of the health station and safe custody of its equipment, medical supplies, materials, and health records;
- Monitor the health status of household members under his/her area of service coverage; and
- Maintain an updated list/records of health activities.
- Is the Barangay Health Services (BHS) NC II certification mandated for all BHWs?
The Training Regulations (TR) on Barangay Health Services (BHS), co-developed by the Technical Education and Skills Authority (TESDA) and Department of Health (DOH), consists of the basic, common, and core competencies to produce a competent BHW. The DOH encourages the Local Government Units(LGUs) to enroll/register their respective BHWs as stipulated in the DM 2022-0124 dated March 2022 entitled Further Guidance on the BHWs Capacity Activities for FY 2022.
- Are there any capacity-building programs focused on climate change for BHWs?
The 2022 Barangay Health Worker Reference manual includes information on environmental health and briefly discusses climate change. The DOH recommended that LGUs use the 2022 BHW Reference manual as the main training reference for BHWs.
