December 7, 2022
Dear Mary Ann Garcia,
Greetings!
We refer to your letter dated December 5, 2022 about your request under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch, for Number of Reported VAWC Cases in Pasay City.
Your Request
Number of Reported VAWC Cases in Pasay City
Response to Request
This is in response to your request on the number of reported VAWC cases in Metro Manila and Pasay from January 2022 to December 2022. We would like to inform you that PCW does not have city-specific data for VAWC cases, but we can provide you with the NCR VAW statistics we have acquired from the Philippine National Police, which are from January 2022 to June 2022 only. The file we received from the aforementioned agency is attached to this response.
In the Philippines, Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 penalizes domestic violence against women and their children. The law covers physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuses committed by intimate partners.
As of now, PNP is the only source of data on national incidence of violence against women having a well established reporting system through their Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS). This electronic system is fully operational in all police stations and community precincts in the country.
Please ensure proper citation, and you may also email the PNP Women and Children Protection Center at
[email protected] and
[email protected] for further assistance on data and analysis concerns.
As an additional data source, please also check the webpage of the Philippine Statistics Authority where the Annual Statistical Fact Sheets on Women and Men in the Philippines, which among others, contain VAW data, has been proactively disclosed: https://psa.gov.ph/gender-stat/wmf.
