The Mariano Marcos State University is a Level IV comprehensive university based in the City of Batac, Ilocos Norte. Founded in 1978, MMSU has since distinguished itself through excellence in its four-fold functions: instruction, research, extension and resource generation (production). MMSU offers graduate and undergraduate degrees across 11 colleges, including a College of Medicine and a College of Law, as well as diploma, short-term and basic education courses. It is recognized as: CHED Center of Excellence in Teacher Education; Center of Development in Biology, Agriculture, Forestry, and Information Technology; and a National University of Agriculture and Fisheries. The university maintains research, training, and innovation centers in agriculture, bioenergy and climate change, among others.
